Rugby has a Law Book. But simply reading the Laws doesn't necessarily help you understand the game.
Understanding Rugby is designed to show you how the Laws fit together — how possession is won and lost, where players can go, how space is created, and why referees make the decisions they make.
The goal is simple. The better you know the law, the better player, coach, referee or superfan you become.
Who it's for?
The content will be clear enough for someone watching their first rugby match, but detailed enough to help players, coaches and referees understand the game at a deeper level.
Why is it free?
Because I want more people to understand rugby.
The easier we make it for new fans to understand what they're watching, for players to understand what they can and cannot do, for coaches to teach the game, and for referees to apply the Laws consistently, the better the game becomes.
I don't want cost to be the reason someone doesn't learn.
Understanding Rugby will therefore be built around free educational content. As the project grows, people who find it valuable will have opportunities to support it, but learning the game should come first.
